Welcome to my Fast and Fun interview with Renee Scattergood. For those of you who haven't seen my previous blog, I reviewed two of Renee's other books in the Shadow Stalker series, so of course I was interested in learning about her latest story, The Dream Crypt (An Onyx Warrior Short Story). Click here my reviews of Renee's other books. Note: You can download Part 1 & 2 of the Shadow Stalker Series here!

There are very few authors who can grab my attention like Renee can. Her style of writing is easily accessible and very detailed. She creates a world in your mind that is as real as the one you are sitting in. I am excited to read her newest story, as well as her Shadow Stalker serial. Let's find out what The Dream Crypt is all about!

Fast passed interview:

What makes your book different from others in your genre? This is actually my first story in this genre. I know many people have written stories about people trying to escape from vampires or other supernatural baddies, but I was wondering, what would happen if the person didn’t know they had been captured. What if they thought life was normal, or mostly normal with strange things happening around them they couldn’t explain.

Why should readers buy your book?

It’s a great read for people who love shorter reads on the way to work or school, and want something that gets their heart going. Something that might work a little better than caffeine. 😉

What is the one thing you wish you knew about being a writer before you started your book?

I really can’t think of anything. I spent a lot of time learning the business before I ever published anything, and while I still have a lot to learn, I’m happy with how things have gone. I learn so much with each new book.

Where do you draw your inspiration from to write your books?

Sometimes the ideas just come to me, but with my short stories I use a plot generator or writing prompts as the basis for my ideas. I like doing this because it challenges me to step outside of writing what I normally would and try something new.

What would you like to say to your readers?

Thanks so much for all your support. I’ve had so many people write and tell me how much they love my stories and it really motivates me to keep writing. I love knowing my stories have had an effect on people.

Fun facts about Renee:

  • I won 1st place in a radio script writing competition when I was in high school along with two other of my classmates. It was called A Knight to Forget. I don’t recall the plot for the story, but there were many Star Wars references in it.

  • I’ve always loved telling stories, but it never occurred to me to write them down until I was in college and my English instructor suggested I consider getting some of my work published.

  • Up until my senior year in high school, I was striving to be an astronaut and pilot.

  • I nearly gave up on writing when I lost an entire manuscript when my computer crashed and my hard drive was destroyed. It took about 5 years for me to start writing again, and by then I had learned to keep multiple copies of what I wrote.

  • I absolutely love pizza, but being restricted to a gluten free diet (for medical reasons) makes it hard to find good pizza. I often make my own gluten free crust and it tastes awesome, but nothing will ever beat a good New York pizza.
